Mahabaleshwar is a popular holiday resort and honeymoon spot, and an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. It is the site of Mahabaleshwar Temple. Many tourists visit nearby Panchgani.
After the construction of a new highway, it is only a five-hour drive from Mumbai. How To Get Here
You can take a tourist bus (Volvo) from Mumbai, departing from Dadar East, Sion or Vashi. The ride will take you 6 hours and will cost around Rs 350. An ordinary AC bus will cost Rs 200. The Volvo bus from Pune is currently operated by two private companies (Neeta and Konduskar), and they charge approx Rs 200 each way.
Mahabaleshwar is also accessible by road from Mumbai, about 247 kms. It takes about 4 to 5 hours by car if taking a route via Panvel through Mahad and Poladpur.
You can also reach Satara by train from Mumbai/Banglore. Mahabaleshwar is 47 KM from Satara and takes little more than one hour from there.
Try to arrive here in the morning because most of the hotels have a check-in time of 9 AM. If you arrive later you may have to wait until another room becomes vacant.
Places to Visit: Although there are close to 25 'Points' in Mahabaleshwar, lots of these points would give you the same view (of mountains/valley) from a slightly different angle. The following are a must:
Arthur's Seat - Marjorie Point - Kate's Point - Bombay Point (Sunset Point) - Elephant's head Point - Lingamala Falls (best viewed from behind Surya Resort)
Mapro Farm Visit the Mapro farm and try out an a wide range of strawberry shakes, fruit salads and ice creams. You can buy squashes, lemonades, fresh fruit juices that are prepared at the Mapro Farm. There are sign posts everywhere along the route and it won't be difficult to spot the farm.
1. Para sailing at Table Land (Panchgani) will cost you between Rs 200 - 250.
2. Para Gliding at Horizon Point (Panchgani) is good it will set you back Rs 1500 for a 10 -
15 minute ride tough you can experience the thrills of flying.
3. You can experience all kinds of boating activities @ Tapola & Mahableshwar Lake.
5. Valley crossing
1. During rainy season the place is a must visit if you enjoy fog visibility is very low most of
the points are not visitable due to fog or heavy rain. Lake is absolutely amazing to visit
it covered with fog the boat fairer will take you in the middle of the lake you can wait for
few minutes and then strong wind comes and blows the fog away you can see the
beautiful lake for few seconds and then the fog returns and covers the area.
2.While visiting Lingmala waterfall be careful of leeches which will attach to your body
while walking in the jungle or swimming in the river and suck blood like vampire though
absolutely harmless will cause itching if not removed properly avoid burning them or
pulling them remove them by using a knife or blade by sticking it between your skin and
its teeth and pulling it away with knife or blade.
3.Sunset point is the best place to be in the evening food wise there are a lot of
restaurants though food is a downer in most of them.
As the name suggest Panch means five and Gani means five hills so town of five hills
